Top 10 Black Friday Shopping Tips

Some of us look forward to shopping on Black Friday every year. Some love the thought of planning their trip to the stores and even enjoy pushing through the crowds. Then, there are people like myself who love to do most of their shopping online. Whether you’re shopping in-store, online, or both, follow these tips to get the most out of your Black Friday shopping experience.

  1. Set A Budget
Before you spend a dime during Black Friday, set a budget and stick to it. Take advantage of cash back offers from your credit card company, but only if you are disciplined enough to pay the entire balance when you receive your bill. If not, use your debit card. It is so much faster than having to pull cash out of your wallet.
  2. Shop The Early Sales – Most of us have heard that there will be stock issues this holiday season. There are certain items that you probably shouldn’t wait to buy on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. For instance, if you are planning to buy your child the new Playstation 5 or the Nintendo Switch OLED you may need to purchase it where ever you can find it.
  3. Be Prepared
Check out the ads and apps. Make a list of the stores you plan to visit. Base it on the best discounts or the items that are most important. If two stores are opening at the same time, decide which item you need the most or which item has the best discount.
  4. Join Loyalty Programs
Many programs will give you early access to sales and may also send coupons.
  5. Check Websites and Download Apps
Track prices before black Friday. Try apps such as Google Shopping, Price Grabber, or Shopzilla. There are also apps that let you scan bar codes or QR codes to compare prices. Some of my favorites are Shopkick, ShopSavvy, and Buyvia.
  6. Ask For Gift Receipts
Gift receipts show the item that you purchased but do not show the price that you paid for it. Including these receipts inside gift boxes will make returns or exchanges easier for the gift recipient.
  7. Divide and Conquer
Black Friday can be faster and more fun if you take a friend or a relative. Before you arrive at the store, divide up shopping duties. For instance, you could go to electronics and housewares, and your partner could go to cosmetics and apparel.
  8. Stay Safe
Park in well lit areas, do not leave bags visible in your car, and always be aware of your surroundings. Beware of strangers that may approach you. Alert security if you see any suspicious activity.
  9. Have Fun
Black Friday can bring out the worse in people. Try not to be one of those people. Have a good time and enjoy being with your friend or family member. Take breaks and share a snack or a meal.
  10. Do Not Wear Red In Target
I saw this tip online and had to include it. You will be mistaken for an employee and will get flagged down or tackled.
